Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia Describes current and evidence-based approach to all aspects of anesthesia including pre- operative preparation, intraoperative management and postoperative intensive care for patients born with congenital heart disease, including newborn, premature babies, children and even grown-up patients, for elective as well as emergency surgery. It summarizes updated knowledge of surgical and pathophysiological aspects as well as catheterization laboratory diagnostic and therapeutic intervention and challenges for the anesthesiologist during the procedure. As the congenital heart surgery is evolving very rapidly, particularly involving interventional procedures with surgery in hybrid operation room is mentioned. Special chapter on pre- and postoperative extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support is also added. This book aims to serve as a guide for those who are undergoing postgraduate training in courses in anesthesia and/or intensive care, critical care and emergency medicine and those who are practising cardiac anesthesia, especially the candidates of Fellowship National Board, DM (cardiac anesthesia) and MCh (cardiothoracic vascular surgery). It will be of utmost use for the young consultants working in the field of cardiac anesthesia, occasional cardiac anesthesiologists, pediatric cardiac surgeons and intensivists, and for those practicing pediatric anesthesia.
