Humanities in Medical Education

covers a wide range of topics from historical aspects of humanities to need and purpose

of medical humanities, and ways and means of inculcating humanities in medical

students including their assessment. Core competencies related to the field of medical

humanities have been provided for better understanding and framing an institutional

curriculum.

The authors have defined medical humanities as "an amalgamation of medical

sciences with arts, viz. philosophy, sociology, psychology, history, literature, theatre and

arts, empathy, culture, and more importantly with ethics, communication, and

professionalism in medical context, with interdisciplinary interaction and application of

c1inical skilis with soft skilIs for improving patient-care outcomes".

The book deals with medical humanities and should serve as a useful resource for

teaching many of the AETCOM competencies.
