The book in hand comprising 27 chapters prepared by leading subject experts in the country addresses the diversities of environmental contamination evaluates the problems and disturbances which they cause to the biotic as well as a biotic components of the ecosystem and indicates strategies that are being developed to salvage the situation. The chapters dealing with the general aspects of environment and pollution are given in the beginning followed by those which are relatively more specialized and elucidate specific effects of the environmental components on flora fauna and materials. Some chapters demonstrate as to how plants respond to the varying environmental scenario how they tend to adapt to the existing conditions and how these can serve as pollution indicators.
