The book while covering the requirements for the University Exmainations in Applied Geology, at the B.Sc., M.Sc. And M.Tech, levels, aims beyond. Hence subjects such as Managerial Economics, Projects Planning and the use of computers have been included. These subjects afford a new dimension to the book and are intended to make the students a "professional" geologist and not a mere degree holder, in Geology. The other subjects included are those needed for day-to-day work of the field geologist of applied geologist. The Present edition takes into account the recent changes in the Mineral Concession Rules and also in the Mineral Conservation and Development Rules. The other additional material now included provides an insight into aspects of open cast mining such as deployment and utilisation of heavy earth moving machines and the techniques of blasting as applied to open cast mining.
