Cardiology refers to the study of the diseases affecting heart and blood vessels. It is concerned with normal heart function and any deviations from a healthy heart. Many disorders affect the heart itself; whereas, some diseases occur outside of the heart and in the vascular system. These disorders include therosclerosis, aneurysm, stenosis, cardiomyopathy, high blood pressure, endocarditis, atrial fibrillation, and heart rhythm disorders. Cardiac MRI, stress tests, cardiac catheterization, coronary angiogram, electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG), and holter monitor test are some of the tests that are used to diagnose cardiovascular disorders and diseases. Cardiologists provide continual care to patients with cardiovascular diseases by performing certain diagnostic tests, and overseeing all the aspects of therapy including the administration of medications. This book aims to shed light on some of the unexplored aspects of cardiology. It presents case studies related to all contemporary topics of relevance to the field of cardiology.
